Copy a voice.
Make it say anything.
Record half a minute of someone talking. Maina learns the voice, then reads whatever you type in it: English, Hindi or Urdu. All on your own computer.
No account, no upload, no subscription. It isn't signed yet, so opening it the first time takes one extra click.

2What it should say
How it works
Three steps, and the last one is just typing.
Record a voice
Read the paragraph Maina gives you, or just talk about your day for 20 to 30 seconds. A voice note or a video clip you already have works too.
See how well it'll copy
Before you save it, Maina scores the recording out of 100 and tells you what to fix: background noise, a quiet mic, long pauses. It even scores you live while you're still talking.
Type, then listen
Type anything, up to a few pages, and Maina reads it back in that voice. Save it as a WAV for a video, a message or a voiceover.
Yours, and only yours
Your recordings never leave your computer.
- Nothing is uploadedThe voice engine downloads once, then works offline. No account, no cloud, no one listening.
- Every clip is marked as AI-madeMaina adds an inaudible watermark to everything it says, so a copy can always be told apart from the real person.
- Only copy voices you're allowed toYour own, or someone who has said yes. Maina asks you to confirm that before it saves a voice.
- Speaks your languagesEnglish, Hindi and Urdu, mixed in one line if you like. Type Urdu in its own script; Maina reads it properly.
- Picks the right engine for your computerA big natural-sounding voice where your computer can run it, a light quick one where it can't. You'll see which is best for yours.
- FreeIt runs on your computer, so it costs nothing to run, and there's nothing to subscribe to.
What you need
Two voice engines. Maina picks the one your computer runs well.
Natural closest copy
The one that sounds most like the person. Reads English, Hindi and Urdu.
- Memory
- 16 GB or more
- Runs best on
- An Apple Silicon Mac, or a PC with an NVIDIA RTX 30 card or newer
- Download
- About 5 GB, once (more on Windows)
Light everyday laptops
Smaller and quicker to get. English only.
- Memory
- 8 GB is enough
- Runs on
- Any recent processor, no graphics card needed
- Download
- About 1 GB, once
Maina itself needs an Apple Silicon Mac on macOS 13 or later, or a 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 PC. Intel Macs aren't supported. On a computer without a graphics card it works, just slower: give it a minute for a long paragraph.
The first thirty seconds
Your computer will warn you once. Here's how to get past it.
Maina isn't signed yet. Apple and Microsoft charge a yearly fee to vouch for an app, and Maina is free, so the first time you open it your computer says it can't check who made it.
On a Mac
- Open the .dmg and drag Maina into Applications.
- Double-click Maina. macOS refuses and says it can't check it. Click Done.
- Open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll to Security, and click Open Anyway next to Maina.
- Allow the microphone when Maina asks, so it can record a voice.
On macOS 13 or 14 it's quicker: Control-click Maina, choose Open, then Open again.
On Windows
- Run the .exe. Windows may show a blue "Windows protected your PC" box.
- Click More info, then Run anyway.
- If your antivirus asks too, keep it. It's flagging the missing signature, not anything in the app.
- Open Maina from the Start menu and download the engine it suggests.
Windows 11 has everything Maina needs. On Windows 10, keep Microsoft Edge up to date.
Questions
Good to know
Is Maina really free?
Yes. The voice runs on your own computer, so there's no server bill to pass on. No account, no trial, no subscription.
How close does the copy sound?
That mostly depends on the recording. A quiet room and 20 to 30 seconds of natural talking gets a very close copy, and Maina's score tells you before you save the voice. The Natural engine sounds closer than Light.
Can I copy anyone's voice?
Only your own, or someone who has said you can. Copying a voice to fool people or put words in their mouth is wrong, and in many places it's against the law. Every clip Maina makes carries a hidden watermark that marks it as AI-made.
Which languages does it speak?
English, Hindi and Urdu with the Natural engine, including lines that mix them. The Light engine speaks English.
Why does my computer say Maina isn't safe?
Because it isn't signed. Apple and Microsoft charge a yearly fee to vouch for an app, and we haven't paid it for a free app yet. Your computer can't tell who made it, so it warns you once. Here's how to open it.
Where do my voices and clips go?
Into Maina's own folder on your computer, and nowhere else. Delete a voice in the app and it's gone.
Half a minute of talking. Then it's yours to direct.
